The American Gold Eagle...

Sales of American Eagle one-ounce gold coins tripled in May from the month before.

June, 2010.

The price of gold has reached record levels in recent weeks. One sign of this is the increase in demand for the American Gold Eagle one ounce coin.

Suddenly, everyone is looking to secure at least part of their wealth in the form of gold.

The principal driver of gold prices, at least over the last month or so, has been concerns over the financial health of the European Community and, more specifically, the fall in the value of the Euro.

There are real concerns that a further decline in Europe could have a negative impact on world markets as a whole.

Of course, every time there are concerns about the world economy, gold bugs raise their hands, declare the end of the world, and count the gold coins they have buried in their back yards.

But this time, things are a little different.

We are also hearing from big names in the media and the world of finance. Fox News commentator Glenn Beck, financier George Soros and John A. Paulson, a top New York hedge fund manager, have all stepped up as advocates of gold in recent months.

When mainstream investors and commentators vote for gold, more and more individuals go online and start buying gold bullion coins and gold bars.

And everyone’s favorite gold coin, in the U.S. at least, is the American Gold Eagle. Bullion dealers and coin dealers are being deluged with orders.

If you are buying gold coins, keep in mind that the American Gold Eagle is a 22 karat gold coin. If you want pure, 24 karat gold, you are better off buying the American Buffalo coin.
