Can you buy gold bars as jewelry, or do they always come in the form of ingots?

Gold bars as jewelry? It’s an odd idea, but available.

Traditional gold bars always come in the form of a regular ingot. Every gold bar has markings on it, telling you who manufactured the bar, the bar’s weight and gold purity, and a serial number.

However, there are one of two companies which do create a kind of jewelry in the form of gold bars. PAMPs of Switzerland has a line of what they describe as iconic gold bars, which are designed to be worn.

All of the PAMPs Icons have the regular proportions of a gold bar, but are stamped with a design based on the skin of a wild animal – leopard, zebra, crocodile, snake and stingray.

They have a hole in one corner, so you can thread a chain or leather through the hole and wear it.

These are five gram bars, made from .999 pure gold.

It might be fun to have one or two of these, but you would need a lot of them to build up any real store of wealth. Ultimately, they are simply fashion accessories.

Also, keep in mind that one of the core benefits of buying gold in the form of a bar, rather than coins, is that the manufacturing costs of creating gold bars are lower. This means you pay less per ounce of gold you buy. When you buy gold bars as jewelry, you lose that benefit.

However, if you would like to buy one or two of the PAMPs gold bars as gifts, you can get them from GoldAvenue.com.
