What kind of people are gold coin buyers?

People buy gold coins for a variety of reasons. But behind them all lies a desire to hold some of the wealth in a tangible form, outside of the banking system.

Gold coin buyers are generally different from gold bar buyers, particularly large gold bars. Bar buyers, of one kilo and up, are often buying bullion bars with the intention of turning the gold into jewelry. This is particularly true in the Middle East and in Asia.

In north America and Europe, few people buy bars and more buy gold coins.

Among gold coin buyers, some are wealthy, and simply like the idea of owning gold. In a sense, it is a status symbol, a way of demonstrating that you have money to spare and can afford to buy gild.

Another large group comprises those buyers who are looking for security. They have seen their investments plunge in value. They don’t trust the big banks. And they want at least some of their wealth to in a form they can store at home, out of the hands of investors and bankers.

Investing at least some of your money in gold is prudent at any time, as a hedge against sudden disasters on Wall Street. At any time, it makes sense to hold at least 10% of your investment capital in the form of gold.

And when you buy gold, you can have it stored with a bullion dealer or at a bank. But many people like the idea of having their gold close to hand, in their own homes, in the form of gold coins.

The third major group of people who buy gold coins is made up of those who believe that the world is on the brink of economic and societal disaster. They see a future, not so far away, when paper money will lose its worth, and law and order will break down. These people buy gold coins and keep them at home, either in safes, hidden or buried.

Whichever of these groups best fits with your worldview, owning gold is always a pleasure, and it always offers a welcome sense of security.

At least some of your wealth is in your own hands, and can be cashed in if and when necessary.
